David C. Steinmetz

David C. Steinmetz is the Amos Reagan Kearns Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the History of Christianity at Duke Divinity School. Steinmetz is a specialist in the history of Christianity in late medieval and early modern Europe. In recent years he has concentrated on the history of biblical scholarship and learning in Europe from 1350 to 1600 and is currently writing a book for Oxford called “John Calvin: Tradition and Innovation in European Religious Thought.” He is a United Methodist minister and a former president of the American Society of Church History. In 2006 he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
