UMC Bishop

Kenneth H. Carter, Jr. serves as resident bishop of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and as bishop in residence and consulting faculty at Duke Divinity School. He formerly served as president of the Council of Bishops of the UMC, as resident bishop of the Florida Conference of the UMC, and as a moderator of the Commission on a Way Forward.

He is author most recently of “Unrelenting Grace: A United Methodist Way of Life” (Abingdon, 2023) and "God Will Make a Way: Spiritual Life and Leadership in a Contested Season" (Abingdon, 2021). He is also the author of two books with Audrey Warren, "Fresh Expressions of People over Property" (Abingdon, 2020) and "Fresh Expressions: A New Kind of Methodist Church" (Abingdon, 2018).

Nurturing Children Through Worship and Prayer Initiative

A new grant is available to support endeavors that help children come to know and love God and grow in faith.

The Nurturing Children Through Worship and Prayer Initiative aims to support programs that help congregations strengthen worship and prayer practices that respect how children experience God and express their faith, include children with disabilities, draw upon the arts, create opportunities for Bible storytelling, and connect worship to the daily lives of children and families.

Proposals are due by 5 p.m. (ET) on May 6, 2024.
