Amos Reagan Kearns Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the History of Christianity, Duke Divinity School

David C. Steinmetz was the Amos Reagan Kearns Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the History of Christianity at Duke Divinity School. Steinmetz was a specialist in the history of Christianity in late medieval and early modern Europe, and in the later years of his career he concentrated on the history of biblical scholarship and learning in Europe from 1350 to 1600. A United Methodist minister and a former president of the American Society of Church History, he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2006. He died on Nov. 26, 2015.
