Jason D. Thompson

Pastor

The Rev. Dr. Jason D. Thompson is pastor of Sacramento’s St. Andrews AME Church, the oldest historically Black congregation on the West Coast. Additionally, he is an inaugural faculty member of the new Black Honors College at California State University, Sacramento.

Thompson has held previous faculty appointments at New York University, Arizona State University and Appalachian State University and has pastored congregations in North Carolina, Arizona and California. He is a co-editor of the book, “If Colors Could Be Heard: Narratives About Racial Identity in Music Education,” and co-editor of the upcoming book, “Complicit No More: Truth, Justice, and the Awakening of Black Faith Communities.”

He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina Greensboro and a doctorate at Northwestern University. He is the Ducree-Turner Fellow at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology.

For nearly a decade, organizations in this initiative have been seeking ways to alleviate the financial pressures, improve financial literacy skills and enhance fiscal leadership for pastors and their ministries.
